Had been to Hyderabad last weekend for a friends wedding. This city is charming in all sense. The line of pearl shops, the aptly named necklace road, the Salarjung museum, the sparkling white Birla temple, the Charminar, Golconda fort, Ramoji Film city, NTR Gardens and last but not the least the tasty Biryani. You can see a blend of the old city which has an impression of the Nawabs, Mughols of the yesteryears and the new city which has the top IT companies of the world today! Known as the twin cities, Hyderabad and Secunderabad are worth a visit.
Charminar was built by the Qutb Shahi king Mohammad Quli Qutb Shah in 1591. The intricate carvings of the Charminar are worth a watch. The dome shaped carving in the photo below is inverted replica of the head dress of Mohammad Qutb Shah. The Charminar epitomizes the pride of the 400 year old city of Hyderabad. There is an 8 km underground tunnel which leads to the nearby Golconda fort. 2 horse riders could ride through the tunnel. You could imagine how huge the tunnel could be! The Golconda fort is also a beautiful work of art and technology.
The Salarjung museum is one of the oldest museums in the city. It is known to be the largest private collection in the world.
The Birla temple is called so because it is built by the Birla foundation. Totally built in plush white marble, this is the temple of Lord Venkateshwara. It overlooks the beautiful Tank Bund and Hussain sagar lake.
A stroll on the tank bund which is a dam to the Hussain Sagar is a rejuvinating experience in itself. This road separates Hyderabad from Secunderabad. the beauty of this lake is increased by the monolithic Buddha statue right in the centre of the lake.
