Bhigwan

On the way back from Solapur, this time we took a small offbeat road which lead to the marshlands of Bhigwan. It was a pleasure doing some birdwatching and clicking some (not-so-great but decent) photographs. I had been to Bhigwan, Bharatpur and such places earlier and was familiar with some migratory birds. It was great to refresh my memory after a long time.
It was such a relaxing and fun experience to have such an outing after a long long loooooong time! Below are a few photographs.

Pune blast and more

The blast at German bakery was a shock for Punietes more than anybody else. Pune is (now you should say "was") famous for being a peaceful and safe city. This city was known as a "pensioner's paradise", a city to settle down in, a city well-known for education and culture. But now its history. I dont want to get into why the blast happened or whom it was targeted at. The news that irritated me was the next day sub-headlines. It proudly said that this was the first terror attack since 26/11. Does this mean that our security / intelligence has improved? Do we have to be proud that nothing happened since 26/11? Dont our intelligence services, politicians even realize that we are way behind in terms of security?
There is not a single event happened since 9/11 in USA. Why cant the same thing happen in India? Why cant we rely on the government for safety? Why do we have to live in the shadow of terror always?

Harishchandrachi Factory

Another gem of a movie from the kitty of the Marathi Film Industry. A movie about a person and his efforts without whom we would not have been able to see the most popular forms of entertainment today - Cinema. The Indian Film industry is today the largest film industry thanks to the efforts, guts and passion of Dadasaheb Phalke.
Set against the backdrop of the British rule in India, it shows how Dadasaheb Phalke got involved into watching fims and then this passion took him ahead to make the first ever motion picture in India. His neighbours and friends ridiculed him, but he didnt loose faith. With the wholehearted support of his wife and children and few close freinds, he did achieve his goal and made movies which were much better than those made in London.
He gathered like-minded people and did manage to win over patrons and also money for his films. He reached such glorious heights, that his movies were showcased in London and he was offered full financial support in London to make movies there. But then he politely refused the offer because his dream was to make movies in India and for the Indians.
The movie is fast paced and hence you dont get bored. It has a light hearted approach and you enjoy each every moment of the movie. The cinematography and art direction is just too good. Setting up a British style atmosphere is really difficult and Nitin Desai has done a wonderful job.
A must watch!!!!!!!!!!
